And good riddance. Saddled with an owner who is determined to sabotage any chance Seattle might have of keeping the Sonics, and a fan base that is lukewarm at best, the Sonics might as well go and we might as well let them.
Let Clay Bennett be a hometown hero, bringing major league sports to Oklahoma for the first time ever, not counting that time they split a team with New Orleans. Let the NBA insist on shiny new stadiums. Let the Sonics play to Oklahoma City - the 44th media market in the nation, rather than Seattle, the 17th. Let the advertisers come and sell, well, boots and spurs? Feathers and shields? Dust bowls?
It’s over, and there isn’t really anything we could have done to stop it. So, so long Sonics. We’ll keep the name, the memories, and the legacy, but Oklahoma can have the team. See ya.
