Incumbent Attorney General Rob McKenna faces an easy challenge by former Pierce County Prosecutor and Executive John Ladenburg. Although Ladenburg enjoys being a Democrat in what is certainly a Democratic year, McKenna has given voters no reason to oust him. A moderate record with little flash and solid cooperation with Governor Gregoire leaves McKenna in good shape to keep his office.
Sources wonder if McKenna wants to follow in Gregoire's footsteps. Assuming that Dino Rossi fails to win the gubernatorial election again, Rob McKenna is the next best thing that state Republicans have to a rock star - at least until Reagan Dunn comes of age. McKenna would be 50 in 2012, and Washington may yet be ready for the next Republican governor.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's (R) largest financial base of support outside of her home state is in the Evergreen state.
