Catholic cash flows against I-1000

Supporters of Initiative 1000, called the death with dignity or assisted suicide initiative, have long warned that the Catholic Church would be the primary financier behind the campaign against I-1000. A look at PDC reports show they are right.

With nearly unlimited money from passing the plate, and hordes stashed in the coffers in Rome, the Catholic Church is a formidable political opponent. Supporters of I-1000 point out that the Catholic Church has jumped into the campaign and provided the majority of the funding for the anti-choice forces in every other state that has considered death with dignity.

At the same time, Goldy and Lee at HorsesAss, and Carla at the NW Progressive Institute, have noticed that while the Catholic Church is busy funding political campaigns, they still have a few outstanding sexual abuse charges that they ought to be taking care of.

Sure, the Catholic Church is active in most every anti-choice activity it can get its hands on, but given the widespread controversies surrounding the abuse within the Church in the past few years, perhaps, for once, they ought to keep their hands off.

Vote Compassion for the Terminally Ill - Yes on I-1000

There seems to be a very confused group commenting here. Granting a dying person the option of taking a dose of pills to end his or her own life and pain and suffering at the time of his or her choosing is a far cry from killing people. It's called compassion and freedom.

And yes, if you look at the PDC website you will find that the Catholic Church and Catholic organizations largely from out-of-state are the largest contributors to the oppposition of the I-1000 Death With Dignity Initiative.

Contributors opposing I-1000:

Knights of Columbus (Catholic in Connecticut): $325,000

Archdiocese of Seattle: $50,000
Catholic Health Association $50,000
United Confederation of Catholics $30,000
Washington State Confederation of Catholics $24,000
St. Monica's Parish $20,000
Archdiocese of Philadelphia $20,000
Archdiocese of Kansas City $10,000
Archdiocese of Saint Paul $10,000
Archdiocese of St. Louis $10,000
Archdiocese of Denver $10,000
Adrian Dominican Generalate $5,000
Archdiocese of Portland $5,000
Catholic Archbishop of Omaha $5,000
Diocese of Pittsburg $5,0000

Now please dear commentors tell me what business it is of the Catholic Church in Omaha or St. Louis to dictate morals to me and to be meddling in the politics of the State of Washington?

Could you please come up with a logical argument.

What is so frustrating about this post is that the author and those in favor of I-1000 cannot come up with any logical or philosophically sound reason for supporting the legalization of killing, for that's what I-1000 is. Instead you have to go after the Catholic church, which you neither know or understand. The Catholic church is for helping people not hurting them.
Suicide is LEGAl in Washington. People can make that "choice" now. The Catholic Church has not tried to change that law, so I'm a little unclear as to how the CC is trying to take that choice away.

For "Roman Catholic Church,"

For "Roman Catholic Church," read "members of Catholic parishes in Washington State," which is where Catholic money against I-1000 comes from, not Vatican State. I, an individual Catholic parishoner in the state of Washington, make my contribution as an individual who does not believe in this bill. Neither, for that matter, does the Washington State Medical Association, which seems a pretty impressive statement to me.

Vote "No" on I-1000

What’s the old adage, if you don’t have a good argument, lead with a personal attack? Or, better yet, take a jab at the Catholic Church. This is a major tactic of the “yes” on 1000 campaign, to divert attention from the serious flaws in its initiative.

The biggest problem with I-1000 is the lack of a required witness at death. Without a required witness, the opportunity is created for an heir or stressed out caregiver to administer the lethal dose to dad without his consent. Even if he struggled violently, who would know? With no required witness, I-1000 creates the prefect alibi.

Family members, of course, do this kind of thing all the time. Just last week, the Seattle PI ran a story about a mother and son who hired a hit man to off her husband. Why should we pass an initiative that rewards this type of behavior with a “get out of jail free card?”

Sadly, people commit suicide now. Let’s help insure that it’s their choice. Vote “No” on I-1000.

Where Are Catholic Church Contributions?

Show me.
I went to the PDC website: http://www.pdc.wa.gov/QuerySystem/statewideballotinitatives.aspx

and saw that the 2 Yes groups raised approximately $3,075,000. The No group raised only 25% of that, approx $767,000. I didn't see where the Roman Catholic Church contributed.

Will you show me how to work the PDC's website to reveal the church's contributions?

The Roman Catholic Church

Their history is one of suppression of ideas, progress, education and freedom of the individual.

Based on an empirically unsupported myth, they have entrapped the gullible, naive and uneducated with a promise of alleviating their earthly fears and guaranteeing a life after death.

Catholicism is a constant catechism of guilt, redemption and salvation bolstered by fear and surrounded by imminent doom.

Catholicism is a plague upon mankind and their Bible is the enemy.

Strong letter follows.
