Ballots drop this week for the August 19 top-two primary, at least in those counties that allow democracy to begin at home with mail-in voting.
For the first time, our state will get to follow Louisiana's example and vote for any person on the ballot, regardless of their political party preference, or ours.
For the first time, candidates get to decide what party preference to list, regardless of the actual preference of that party, or they can go ahead and make up a party of their own.
For the first time, candidates can guarantee that minor parties are further excluded from the democractic process, and gerrymandering will ensure that red districts get redder and blue ones get bluer (or perhaps more azure).
History in the making. We can't wait to see who wins.
