The state democrats had their party party in Spokane this past weekend, June 13-15, two weeks after state republicans’ gathering of the GOP.
You may recall, the most interesting platform plank to come out of the state Republican Party convention was the decision to overturn the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution in order to prevent babies born in the U.S. from having automatic citizenship.
In fairness, we have to look at the state Democratic Party platform as well, where we are provided with a new world order, led by the enviro-friendly, labor-friendly, foregn-power-friendly U.S. of A. who will be tough but fair in the renegotiation of "the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA),” so that they “are conditioned on environmental, health and safety standards, human rights and workers rights, and which support transparent democratic processes.” That should be easy. Expect the cost of goods to quintuple immediately, and then watch as the cost of goods continues to rise faster than the cost of gas.
Eric Earling at Sound Politics uses examples like these to prove that party people (or, “the crazies” as we like to call them) may not exactly be in the mainstream. His analysis holds true for any political party anywhere. They picked the party, the party didn’t pick them.
The state Dems would also allow us to travel to Cuba, pick up some cigars and have a fantastic pollo a la barbacoa while we discuss Cuba’s universal health care system over mojitos with Michael Moore. We’re very much looking forward to it.
The party did include a few relevant and feasible planks in their platform, such as restoring the integrity of elections with paper ballots, shortening the presidential nominating process, and supporting the death with dignity initiative.
We went back to look for some positive things in the Republican Party platform, but, ironically, were directed to a page that only said “coming soon.”
