U.S. Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.), plagued by scandal since he was arrested for D.U.I., has decided not to seek another term. Maybe he wants to spend more time with his families.
Maybe we should ask U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings. Hastings and Fossella shared a taxpayer-funded trip to Europe where Fossella cavorted with his mistress, who has also borne him an out-of-wedlock daughter, all of which was revealed after Fossella’s drunk driving arrest.
Ethicists now question whether Fossella was using taxpayer dollars to further his extra-marital affair. Hastings, who was chair of the House Ethics Committee at the time of that trip, had the opportunity to watch Fossella and his mistress up close and he had the choice of whether to do or say anything about it.
Did Hastings do anything? He won't say.
