Internal poll shows Burbank ahead in LD36

An internal poll paid for by John Burbank's (D-Seattle) campaign for state House, position 1 in the 36th Legislative District shows him leading fellow Democrat Reuven Carlyle three weeks ahead of the November 4 election.

The poll Burbank commissioned shows  him with a 29-21 lead over Carlyle, with 50 percent undecided.

Because of the "top two" primary, both Democrats moved on from the primary to face each other again in the general election. Carlyle won the primary with 44.5 percent of the vote compared with 40 percent for Burbank and 15.4 percent for Republican Leslie Bloss.

Poll: Gregoire-Rossi still in dead heat, 49-48

The latest SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted for KING-TV Seattle and KATU-TV Portland shows Gov. Chris Gregoire with a slim lead over Dino Rossi in the Washington gubernatorial race, 49 percent to 48 percent.

It marks yet another statistical dead heat for the two candidates who already clashed in 2004, and shows Rossi leading among independents by eight points and men by six points, while Gregoire has a seven point advantage among women.

Notable to the pollsters is the stark difference between Gregoire and the national trend. See their comments below.

UPDATED: Internal poll shows Burner lead in WA-8

Two new internal polls commissioned by Democrats show 8th Congressional District challenger Darcy Burner (D-Carnation) leading her opponent, Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn).

Yesterday's Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee poll gave Burner a five point lead, 49-44, while an internal poll paid for by Burner's campaign will show her up by seven, 47-40, when it is released later today.

The Burner poll was done by Lake Research from a sample of 500 8th District voters. The same poll showed Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) leading Republican Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) by about twenty points among voters in the 8th.

Poll: Gregoire, Rossi tied at 48

The latest poll by Rasmussen released today shows a tie between gubernatorial candidates Dino Rossi and Gov. Chris Gregoire. Both the Republican and the Democrat are deadlocked at 48 with four percent undecided.

The poll, which was conducted on October 2 among 700 likely voters with a +/- 4.5 percent margin of error, showed a divided state beyond simply poll numbers. Both Rossi and Gregoire had a highly divided favorability rating, with Gregoire at 51-47 favorable to unfavorable, and Rossi was 50-48 on the same scale.

The previous Rasmussen tracking poll from September 10 showed Rossi with a six point lead, 52-46 after five straight months of Gregoire holding a slim lead.

Poll: Gregoire 50, Rossi 48

The latest SurveyUSA tracking poll, commissioned by KING-TV and KATU-TV, shows Gov. Chris Gregoire narrowly leading Republican Dino Rossi 50 percent to 48 percent, representing a three point swing for Gregoire since the last SurveyUSA poll done two weeks ago which showed Rossi ahead by one.

Notable among the crosstabs is that this has been the most partisan poll to date. Rossi is supported by 92 percent of Republicans and Gregoire by 87 percent of Democrats, both all time highs in the SurveyUSA tracking poll for this race.

The poll was created from a survey of 682 likely voters on September 21 and 22, 2008. The margin of error is +/- 3.8 percent.

Is Washington in play? It is if you believe polls

Rossi leads in latest poll, McCain closes gap

The latest poll from Rasmussen Reports shows Republican Dino Rossi leading Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire by six percentage points, 52 to 46. It marks the first time since February that Rossi has led in the monthly Rasmussen tracking poll, and the first time that he has broken the 50 percent barrier. Rossi had been mired at 43 percent for three consecutive months prior to the latest poll.

Although only Rossi leads, both candidates are viewed favorably by more than half of the electorate. The challenger has a 55 percent favorability rating, compared with a 53 percent positive rating for the incumbent.

The good news for Republicans extended beyond just the governor's race in today's poll. It also showed Republican presidential nominee John McCain closing the gap with his Democratic opponent Barack Obama. Obama leads 49-47 in the latest survey, down from 52-40 a month ago.

New Elway poll tracks statewide races, shows Gregoire up

A new poll done by local tracker Stuart Elway shows Gov. Chris Gregoire with a large lead over Republican Dino Rossi. The survey, which took place July 27-31 with a relatively small sample of 405 registered voters, had Gregoire up by a count of 52 percent to 36 percent with 12 percent undecided.

The numbers are good news for the incumbent in part because they show her with more than 50 percent support from voters and a lead that withstands the 5 percent margin of error and according to the Seattle P-I's Joel Connelly, who first reported the results, Gregoire led nearly everywhere in the state.

The good news for Rossi is that this is only one poll, and many recent snapshots have shown a much smaller lead for the governor. But perhaps better still, the Elway poll has Rossi leading in both Kitsap and Pierce Counties, normally Democratic districts that Rossi narrowly won in 2004.
