Despite the ground game advantages, the time when a union could swing an election has long passed, although the historical party split remains. Democrats get endorsements in exchange for sending their campaign work to union shops, and Republicans get to rail against unions.

Postman goes deeper into BIAW claims

The Seattle Times' David Postman has a blog post up investigating further into the claims made by a columnist in a BIAW newsletter that environmentalists are akin to Nazis. Yesterday the state Democratic Party called on Dino Rossi to denounce the BIAW for the editorial.  read more »

Dems call on Rossi to denounce BIAW

The Washington State Democratic Party has called on Dino Rossi to denounce (and reject) the influential Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) lobby for their controversial remarks in newsletters calling Governor Gregoire a "she-wolf who would eat her own young" and likening the Department of Ecology to Nazi Germany in a very extended metaphor. The news release they sent out calls the BIAW Rossi's largest financial backers in the state.
