Nickels suggests NBA ought to stay in Seattle

At a press conference today to discuss his Pike Market Levy, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels gave the NBA some free advice about the Seattle Sonics and economics.

"We have been home to the NBA for 41 years and we think it's in the NBA's best interest to stay in the 12th largest market in America," Nickels said.

"Losing one more in a city that is a healthy market," Nickels suggested, "one that has supported the team very well through some pretty lean years, like this year, is in their best interest. We're going to try to make that case."

He also made it clear that the city had not looked into acquiring another team, but rather was committed to keeping the current Sonics team in Seattle.
