Rossi wants a bigger 520 bridge

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi has managed to find a new point of disagreement with Incumbent Chris Gregoire: the Evergreen Point Bridge.

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Rossi's transportation plan calls for a eight lane bridge to be built in its place, whereas the current state plan calls for a the current four-lane span to be expanded to accomodate six lanes of traffic.

Gregoire quotes the price of his eight-lane option at $3.3 billion (the state estimates the current plan will cost $3.6 billion) and said to the Post-Intelligencer that the extra two lanes are needed.

"We have to have greater capacity,” Rossi said. "The bridge has been the same since I was two years old."

According to the article, Gregoire has called Rossi's proposal, “complete silliness”, citing the lack of neighboring roads to handle the increased traffic flow.
