Pierce County Executive and State Attorney General candidate John Ladenburg (D-Tacoma) told the TNT's Political Buzz today that, as a member of the Sound Transit board, he is considering withholding a ballot initiative to bring light rail to Tacoma. The last plan, an $18 billion roads-and-transit proposal for King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties, failed at the ballot box.
Despite rumors that the board wants to bring a more low-key, transit-only proposal to voters this fall to capitalize on high turnout rates, Ladenburg warns "it's never a good year to be on the ballot with the wrong plan."
Instead, he is leaning toward waiting two more years until after the rail has already been installed from Seattle to the airport so that voter enthusiasm can grow from real experience.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's (R) largest financial base of support outside of her home state is in the Evergreen state.
