Ken Henderson: A True Leader in Human Rights

Join the people for Ken Henderson for Senate in the 2nd Annual Bellingham Pride Parade.

Please join the People for Ken Henderson for Senate by marching with us in the 2nd Annual Bellingham Pride Parade. Please meet at the Bellingham High School parking lot at 10:30 AM on Sunday July 13. This is an opportunity to show support for Ken Henderson's 40th District senate campaign and to celebrate the diversity and openness of our great community.

Ken has always been passionate about Human Rights, and was at the forefront of legislation during the 1990's while on the Whatcom County Council working with the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force, The Rainbow Coalition, North Puget Sound NAACP, Hands off Washington, and a number of other Human Rights organizations.

Western Washington University Professor and Human Rights Activist, Dr. Vernon (Damani) Johnson stated, "Ken was instrumental in passing a resolution in support of Human Rights work in Whatcom County during a very difficult political time for the Task Force. Ken stepped up to face a conservative majority in the council and with his strong backing the resolution was passed unanimously. Ken is exactly the type of strong compassionate leader that we need in the Washington State Senate."

Ken worked with the Whatcom Human Rights Task force during these difficult times and encouraged them to push forward with a resolution which he helped to draft at a time when hope was low that it would pass after a similar resolution had been voted down previously. Please, join a true leader in Human Rights and march with Ken Henderson in the Bellingham Pride Parade on Sunday July 13th.

Ken Henderson, 59, practiced optometry for 25 years in Bellingham, Lynden and East Sound. He has extensive community and government service in a broad range of areas from health care, community planning, aging and mental health, and environmental protection. Ken is a graduate of Skagit Valley College, Western Washington University and Pacific University. He served on the Whatcom County Council, Bellingham Planning Commission, United Way board, and a number of other government and community organizations. Ken has been a strong advocate for parks in the area, serving eight years on the Whatcom County Parks Board, the Whatcom Parks and Recreation Foundation Board from 1998 to 2007 and currently serves on the Deception Pass State Park Advisory Board. Ken is a Vietnam veteran and has been providing health care for economically disadvantaged patients locally in his practice and in medical missions to Central America for many years.
