Rossi’s funding pace
The prolific pace of fund raising continues for Republican Dino Rossi in his race for governor.

He raised $701,112 in May and by the end of the month had amassed $5,147,496, according to his campaign. (Jerry Cornfield, Everett Herald)

Where Gregoire gets her money
Gov. Chris Gregoire’s re-election campaign touted her May April fundraising success in a press release yesterday, saying it “shows strong, early support for the governor.”

“I’m happy to see such enthusiastic support for our campaign,” said Gov. Gregoire. “It proves that voters want us to continue to take on challenges and get results on the issues that matter to them most, like education, children’s healthcare and global climate change.”

She did raise a lot of money. But the single largest chunk, by far, came from the state Democratic Party. The press release said Gregoire raised $785,000 in May. Not mentioned was that $200,000 of that came from the state party. That is more a sign of the party’s commitment to her re-election than it is a measure of early support from voters. (David Postman, Seattle Times)

Gregoire’s lead slims
A new Rasmussen Poll shows Gov. Chris Gregoire with a 50-43 lead over Republican Dino Rossi. This is a narrower margin than last month's result from the same pollster that showed the incumbent with an eleven point spread, but closer than a February poll that had Rossi with a one point lead. And Baird’s opponent is…
Republican Christine Webb of Olympia, a last-minute filer for the 3rd Congressional District seat representing Southwest Washington, has won her party’s endorsement. (Durbin, The Columbian)

Unconcealed anger
WHEN IT comes to a city plan to keep concealed weapons from public places, Felix Arena, proud gun owner, has a few thoughts.

First, he says, state law gives him the right to carry concealed firearms with a permit. So what gives Seattle the gumption to trump that? (Robert L. Jamieson Jr., Post-Intelligencer)

How Baird is spending his vacation
U.S. Rep. Brian Baird will lead a congressional tour of the Galapagos Islands beginning Friday. The 16-member group will travel via U.S. military jet to Quito, Ecuador’s capital, and tour the islands by charter boat, returning to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. (Kathie Durbin, The Columbian)
