Cheryl Crist will Challenge Baird, Hold Press Conference

***Updated***

Cheryl Crist, the anti-war activist Democrat from Olympia, is in the process of setting up another run for Rep. Brian Baird's 3rd District seat representing most of Southwest Washington. Crist, who challenged Baird unsuccessfully in 2004, will hold a press conference at the Olympia Public Library this Wednesday, February 27 where she will give more information on her candidacy according to The Olympian's Campaign Trail blog. Crist later confirmed with The Politicker that she will be officially kicking off her campaign on Wednesday.

Her website, on which she claims to be "the peace candidate", has this to say about her legislative priorites:

"Pro-war Representatives are wasting $12 billion per month on endless, unwinnable war. When I represent the Third District, I will vote to end the war. The Third District's share of the savings could buy better levies, roads, school buildings, and more."

Baird has served in congress for ten years, and has over one million dollars cash on hand, while Crist, a former financial consultant, real estate agent and yoga teacher, has yet to report any fundraising details.

However, this race may become more interesting if the netroots get involved. Crist’s campaign has attracted a lot of attention on liberal blogs, and this past fall MoveOn.org financed an ad buy in Vancouver bashing Baird for his Iraq surge support.
