Darcy Burner's campaign released a video on youtube Wednesday (see video below) featuring Montana Senator Jon Tester. The spot talks about how, as a candidate for congress, people are always giving Burner advice on subjects ranging from Iraq to economy, and even hairstyles. The video ends on a lighter note when Burner, sitting in a barber's chair, sees Tester's crew cut and has second thoughts about taking his advice on anything other than policy.
The video was created to garner attention coinciding with the end of the Q1 fundraising cycle, but with the general sensation of youtube, video releases go well beyond money.
"Releasing web videos like this also help to build significant buzz around the race," said Burner spokesman Sandeep Kaushik. "Otherwise, it is mostly just for fun."
Burner isn't the only candidate in Washington releasing videos on a youtube campaign homepage, though she does have the most recent entry. Her opponent in the 8th District, Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) also has a youtube site, where he most recently announced his voluntary earmark moratorium.
Both major state parties, Democrats and Republicans, have their own youtube pages, as does 4th District candidate George Fearing (D-Richland).
While Burner is quite active on youtube with 20 videos to her name, she isn't the most prolific Evergreen State candidate on the web. That title, at this moment, goes to the Republican candidate for Governor Dino Rossi (R-Sammamish). Though he hasn't posted anything in nearly a month, Rossi still leads the way with 21 videos on his page.
