Today the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 8th, Darcy Burner, was listed as one of thirteen candidates in the first wave of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red to Blue program. Red to Blue offers strategic, financial and communications support from the DCCC for candidates that appear to have a strong chance to unseat a Republican incumbent.
The release states that Burner made the list by way of her strong fundraising ability and what the organization saw as a clear demonstration of representing change in Washington, D.C.
"These candidates have come out of the gate strong and the Red to Blue Program will give them the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive in November," said Chairman Chris Van Hollen, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Last election Red to Blue raised an average of $404,000 for each of its candidates.
Burner was flattered by the deisgnation and thankful for the help she has already received from voters.
"Being named to Red-to-Blue is both an honor and an indicator of the strength of this campaign. It will help us bring our message of change to the voters in the 8th Congressional District," Burner said in a statement. "Voters in this district are hungry for effective representation. They want to see the economy restored to health, health care made more affordable, and the war in Iraq brought to a responsible close. I am honored so many people have already joined my campaign for change and I look forward to building on our strong foundation with the help of this important program."
