The Washington Federation of State Employees released its list of endorsements for the state this weekend after its delegates met to decide upon their candidate of choice in each race. As the press release states, "They primarily endorsed incumbents."
It's true. Out of all of the endorsements the WFSE made, only three were not incumbents. The union endorsed John Ladenburg for Attorney General, Darcy Burner for U.S. House in the 8th District and Daryl Daugs for state representative in the 35th LD. All three are Democrats, but only Daugs is running to fill an open seat.
While the FSME did primarily endorse incumbents, it should be noted that most incumbents in Washington are Democrats. Perhaps more important here is whom they did not endorse. Looking down the line, as The Olympian's Adam Wilson points out, it is clear that the union chose not to endorse anyone for House leader Richard DeBolt's (R-Chehalis) seat in the 20th, nor did they endorse anyone for Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Pasco) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers' (R-Colville) Congressional seats in the 4th and 5th Districts.
UPDATED: The union has confirimed that any non-endorsements are not meant to stay as such for long, and are merely pending interviews with other candidates. Their national organization, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, endorsed Hillary Clinton for President in October, 2007.
