Bloss endorses Burbank

Leslie BlossLeslie Bloss, the Republican candidate for state House, position 1 in Seattle's 36th Legislative District, has endorsed Democrat John Burbank now that the "top two" primary has ended her campaign. Bloss first reported the news in a comment on PolitickerWA.com.

This afternoon over the phone Bloss confirmed her endorsement of Burbank, mainly on the strength of three issues: keeping an elevated Alaska Way Viaduct, fixing Mercer Street and supporting Katie's Law.

"I think that Burbank is more in line with me, particularly wanting the Viaduct and the Mercer Street mess fixed. All those three things [including Katie's Law] are important to me."

She also added a personal note to her endorsement.

"I like his ethics better," she said, "and Burbank has always been fair for me."

As for whether her supporters would follow suit and vote against party lines in a race where Bloss' 15.4 percent, if used as a bloc, would almost certainly bring victory. After a week of counting, Carlyle led the race with 44.5 percent of the vote with Burbank just behind with 40.2 percent. Burbank was ahead on primary night, but Caryle has surged ever since.

Still, Bloss was not sure how her supporters would react.

"I know that some people said that they wouldn't vote for John Burbank," she said, "but I felt like I needed to vote for one. I don't believe in sitting out."

Either way, she cares more for her issues and the state's fiscal health.

"I hope that if either one of them wins they will take a hard look at how much we can afford regarding health care and taxes," Bloss said.

For all you Bloss fans out there, fear not that the top two primary has ended her political career for good, she said she enjoyed meeting people and pushing to represent likeminded people in her neighborhood.

"Politics is something that is a calling," she said. "I want to make some changes and that seems to be a good way to do it."
