Christenson claims Dem nonimation in LD2

JeanMarie Christenson has announced that she was chosen as the official Democratic nominee for state House position 1 in the 2nd Legislative District at their nomination meeting Monday. In her press release, Christenson says she won the weighted PCO vote handily, receiving 128 votes to 27 for Yelm businessman Chuck Collins and 26 for former Eatonville Councilman Raymond Harper. Calls to confirm the vote total with the 2nd District leadership have not been returned.

"I will continue to dedicate myself, and work diligently for all the folks in our District and State, to help make sure everyone has a future worth walking into," Christenson said in her release.

Christenson was also the Democratic nominee for this seat in 2006, when she lost to Rep. Jim McCune by 5,000 votes. According to a report by the Tacoma News-Tribune earlier this spring, Collins was recruited by House leadership to join the race, but he only recently moved into the district.

UPDATE: 2nd Legislative District Chair Bob Chaimberlain confirms that Christenson was chosen as the official Democratic nominee for State Rep. Also at the meeting, Chamberlain said the body moved to endorse the other candidates, Ray Harper and Chuck Collins, as worthy nominees.

Thank God for I-872. So we can pick the most qualified

Thank God for I-872. So we can pick the most qualified. If there ever was a case to endorse I-872 this is the time. I have to admit that I vote for the person not the party. I also vote for the issue not the party. If I had a choice between Jim McCune and JeanneMarie Christenson, without hesisitation I would vote for Jim McCune.

I was at the 2LD Convention when Christenson made a speach that was out of this world - I mean this candidate is literally on another planet. What concerns me is that the general public will vote for her because she is a teacher and not realize that this woman is a bubble off center. I was also at the 2LC Committee meeting when Christenson, Ray Harper and Chuck Collins made their endoresement speeches.

For the life of me I cannot figure out how the PCO's voted for Christenson. Ray Harper and Chuck Collins are two strong candidates. I am somewhat torn in casting my vote. Chuck Collins is a young man with a fair amount of experience and a great deal of potential. He will be a great assest to the party in years to come. Ray Harper presents wisdom and is very pro labor. Given the state of our economy, the huge budget deficit, our enormous trade deficit and recession I am very concerned about what lies ahead of us. The last serious recession was in 1972-1974 and when we came out of the recession we had a manufacturing base. We are entered a potentially serious recession as a service economy and this is uncharted territory. We need to revive our transporation infrasturcture and restore manufacturing. We cannot afford to allow multi-national corporations to continue to send manufacturing jobs overseas. Nor can we allow investors to spend $130 billion in overseas emerging markets. We must invest in our country and this means a no nonsense pro-labor stand. Given the state of our country, I believe Ray Harper is the right man for our government at the present time.
