Superdelegate Pelz to back Obama

Washington State Democratic Party Chairman Dwight Pelz, a superdelegate at the Democratic National Convention this summer, has just announced that he will support Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"I am writing you today to let you know that I will be supporting Sen. Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver," he said in an e-mail to supporters.
Pelz made it clear that it has been his responsibility as Chair to help retain the confidence of the voters in their own ability to select the nominee. Now that the Congressional District caucuses are over and all of Washington's national delegates have been selected, he felt it was appropriate to finally display his preference.
"I will be supporting Barack Obama for many reasons," Pelz continued. "Over the last few years, I have gained a profound respect for Sen. Obama. I have read his books, listened to his speeches, and watched the campaign he has run on the grueling modern presidential playing-field for nearly two years. And I have spoken with literally hundreds of friends and colleagues -- both in and out of politics -- regarding their opinions and observations of this man. I have concluded that Barack Obama is ready to be a great American President."
Besides his certainty in Obama's ability to govern, Pelz also spoke about his confidence in Obama's ability to win the general election, and spoke respectfully of Hillary Clinton, her supporters and her campaign.
But ultimately, it was about the voice of the people.
"At this point in time, however, I feel the voters have spoken," Pelz said, "that Sen. Obama will be our nominee, and that it is time for us as Democrats to begin the final stretch of this historic 2008 campaign to take back America. It is time to unify our party around one candidate."
With his decision, Dwight Pelz's support brings Obama's Washington superdelegate count to seven, the same as Hillary Clinton.

Pelz has his finger in the wind, like he alway's does. He didn't declare for Obama because he thinks he's the better candidate. He declared for Obama for two reasons - his political hide and because he doesn't like being called a racist (he's not) but when a White Guy like Pelz runs against a black man and loses and then waits until the last minute to endorse Obama it's only because he has calculated his best interests. Now I won't be supporting him for anything in the future. Not one office and in fact I won't support anyone who rewarded the Obama campaign of division and race baiting.

2. What's the Cheney Energy Bill about?
ANSWER: The Cheney Energy Bill passed in 2005 (H.R. 6). McCain Voted FOR it. Obama Voted FOR it. Clinton Voted AGAINST it. (i.e. McCain & Obama already SOLD OUT to the nuke industry in 2005. Clinton did not: will not.)
The Cheney Energy Bill decreed that US Taxpayers would REPAY the Nuke Building LOANS that DEFAULT. (The Congressional Budget Office rated the risk of default at 50% or greater.) No new nukes were built for 30 years because the banks wouldn't loan the money--too risky.
Why Should we build nukes?

2. What's the Cheney Energy Bill about?
ANSWER: The Cheney Energy Bill passed in 2005 (H.R. 6). McCain Voted FOR it. Obama Voted FOR it. Clinton Voted AGAINST it. (i.e. McCain & Obama already SOLD OUT to the nuke industry in 2005. Clinton did not: will not.)
The Cheney Energy Bill decreed that US Taxpayers would REPAY the Nuke Building LOANS that DEFAULT. (The Congressional Budget Office rated the risk of default at 50% or greater.) No new nukes were built for 30 years because the banks wouldn't loan the money--too risky.
Why Should we build nukes?
ANSWER: There is NO Good Reason for US to build nukes. We NEED De-Centralized, Clean, Renewable, INEXPENSIVE ENERGY Technology. Nukes are NONE OF THE ABOVE. There's PLENTY of excellent NEW Technology that will fill the bill...given greater INVESTMENT.

Last week's NEWS: The governor of South Carolina is refusing to allow the Federal govt. to ship 30 tons of plutonium into South Carolina---until the Feds provide him with a written agreement that the Feds will --REMOVE-- the plutonium from South Carolina-in the event their plans to produce FUEL are unsuccessful.
(Looks like the govt. wants to move 30 TONS of plutonium from the western states to South Carolina to locate it closer to the 29 nukes to be built in many of the Eastern a& Southern states.

Good on you Dwight, and regarding the remarks regarding Senator Cantwell and Murray, they both are close to Clinton and when Sen. Cantwell needed fund raising help, Clinton was there. I understand their position, and I know they will be there for Obama or Clinton. This is the way it works, we in the trenches sometimes get too wrapped supporting our "guy" and naturally develop hard feelings for the competition, this is normal, but we have to move above our feelings, after the race is over, we need to embrace the winner and support him or her to win the big one!

A note to Shannon: I too was very disappointed by the early endorsements for Senator Clinton by Senators Murray and Cantwell. That said, both HAVE made statements to the effect that they will respect the will of the people and their constituency. Also, as female Senators there was likely ENORMOUS pressure on them from the Clinton regime. And all that said, Senators Murray and Cantwell are excellent. I urge you to reconsider.
I do have enormous respect for the endorsement from Governor Gregoire--really going out on a limb at the time. She shows great vision in her support of Senator Obama!

If any of the "undecided" delegates has any doubt as to who the nominee should be, then I seriously doubt their motives.

Unlike Marie Cantwell, who will NEVER get our support again for failure to show leadership and respect for her constituency, Dwight Pelz is not cowtowing to political pressure or pursuing his own personal political agenda.
