Baird Announces Re-Election Bid

Rep. Brian Baird (D-Vancouver) officially announced today that he will seek re-elecion to the 3rd District seat that covers Southwest Washington. In a press release, Baird highlighted his committee memberships, he is chair of the Research and Education subcommittee of the House committee on Science and Technology, and his bi-partisan approach to legislative solutions.

"I hear from voters throughout the district and across the political spectrum that they appreciate having a representative who looks beyond partisan politics to do what is right," Baird said in a statement. "I will continue to do my utmost in Congress to tackle challenging issues straight on, to listen and work together for common sense solutions to challenges facing our region and our nation."

The five-term Congressman also pledged to "wage and energetic and aggressive campaign," by raising a half million dollars in addition to the one million he already has on hand, and vowed to bring in "substantially more" money if needed.

"I have always worked as hard as I can during my five terms in Congress and in every campaign and this year will be no exception," Baird continued. "We will have a strong, grassroots organization and will reach out to voters from across the district and the political spectrum to ask for their support."

Baird, whose re-election website can be seen here, will be challenged in the Democratic primary by Cheryl Crist, who announced her candidacy last week.
